Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from Queensland homeowners.

Do you service air conditioning systems you did not install?
No — we only service systems that were installed by Chillin Air & Electrical. This allows us to guarantee the quality of our work and maintain full knowledge of each system we support. If your system was installed by another contractor, we recommend contacting them directly for servicing.
What size air conditioner do I need?
As a general guide for Queensland homes, you need roughly 125W of cooling capacity per square metre for a well-insulated room. A 25m² bedroom typically suits a 2.5–3.5kW unit, while an open-plan living area of 60m² may need a 7–8kW system. The right size also depends on ceiling height, glazing, insulation, and orientation. We recommend getting a professional assessment rather than guessing — an undersized unit will run constantly and an oversized unit will short-cycle, both causing problems.
What is the difference between ducted and split system air conditioning?
A split system conditions one room or open-plan area using a single wall-mounted indoor unit connected to an outdoor compressor. A ducted system uses a concealed indoor unit in the ceiling connected to outlets throughout the home via ductwork, allowing whole-home conditioning with optional zone control. Ducted systems have a higher upfront cost but offer a cleaner look and better whole-home coverage. Split systems are more cost-effective for individual rooms or smaller homes.
How long does a ducted air conditioning installation take?
A ducted installation usually takes two to three working days in total, depending on home size, ceiling access, zoning, and electrical requirements. For new homes, the work may be split across the build schedule. For established homes, we explain the access and disruption before work starts.
Which brands do you install?
We install Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Samsung, Haier, Panasonic, and Hisense systems, paired with Polyaire ductwork and AirTouch 5 zone controllers. We recommend the brand that best suits your home size, budget, and performance requirements.
Can you install air conditioning in a new home?
Yes. We can help with air conditioning for a new home and coordinate with the people involved in the build when needed, while keeping the advice focused on what will work best for the people living there. We hold QBCC Licence 15025062 for covered air conditioning and associated work.
What warranty do I get on a new installation?
All installations come with the manufacturer warranty on the equipment (typically 5 years on parts for residential systems) plus our workmanship warranty. Exact terms depend on the brand and model selected. Register your system with the manufacturer after installation to activate the full warranty period.
