Hervey Bay Electrical Planning
A look at residential electrical planning on a Hervey Bay home - from cable runs and switchboard prep through to final inspection.
This video follows our Hervey Bay team through the early electrical stage of a residential project - from the moment we arrive on-site with bare frames to the final walkthrough before the walls are sealed. It's a thorough look at what goes into a compliant, high-quality electrical installation.
What Happens Before the Walls Are Closed?
The first stage of residential electrical work takes place after the frame is up but before plasterboard is installed. At this stage, our licensed electricians install the cabling, conduit, and back boxes that will ultimately be hidden inside the walls and ceilings.
All work must comply with AS/NZS 3000:2018 (the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules) and the Queensland Electrical Safety Act 2002. Our electricians hold current Queensland electrical licences and carry out regular refresher training to stay current with any updates to the standards.
What We Cover in the Video
- ●Cable runs for power circuits, lighting circuits, and dedicated circuits (oven, cooktop, air conditioning)
- ●Switchboard and sub-board positioning
- ●Safety switch (RCD) planning across required and recommended circuits
- ●Smoke alarm cabling to Queensland requirements
- ●TV, data, and communications cabling
- ●Allowance for future solar inverter and battery storage
- ●Final inspection walkthrough before walls are closed
Switchboard Planning
A well-planned switchboard makes the homeowner's life easier and simplifies any future maintenance or additions. In this build, we sized the switchboard to accommodate the home's current circuits plus room for future expansion — solar, EV charging, and additional circuits — without requiring a full board replacement down the track.
For new-home switchboards, we plan safety switch (RCD) coverage against the Wiring Rules and Queensland requirements, then talk through extra protection where it makes sense. Queensland transfer and rental rules focus on power point circuits, new homes built since 2000 also require lighting-circuit protection, and the Electrical Safety Office recommends considering safety switches on all circuits for stronger protection.
Why Early Electrical Planning Sets the Tone
Quality early electrical planning saves time and money later. When cables are neatly run, correctly labelled, and terminated to the right locations first time, the final installation can move efficiently and confidently. Sloppy early work results in call-backs, expensive rectification work, and delays.
Our Hervey Bay branch covers the Fraser Coast region for new homes, renovations, upgrades, and electrical service work.
