Getting Your Air Con Summer-Ready | A Queensland Checklist
A pre-season checklist for Queensland homes: the simple checks that keep a split system cooling properly before the first hot week, and what to leave to a licensed service.

The first genuinely hot week always catches a few systems out. Units that limped through last summer — a bit noisy, a bit weak — get pushed hard, and filters that were fine in March are clogged by November. A short pre-season check keeps a split system doing its job through the worst of the Queensland summer.
The five-minute checks you can do yourself
- ●Clean or rinse the indoor filter. Most filters pop out with the front panel — rinse in warm water, dry in the shade, and refit once completely dry.
- ●Check the outdoor unit is breathing. Clear leaves, grass clippings and anything within a metre of the coil so air can move through it freely.
- ●Test it on cooling for ten minutes before you actually need it — listen for rattles or a compressor that never settles.
- ●Check the condensate drain is dripping outside while cooling. Drips inside mean the drain is blocked and needs attention.
- ●Look at the remote batteries and the timer settings — half of "the aircon is broken" turns out to be a timer left over from last winter.
What should be left to a service
Refrigerant levels, coil condition and electrical connections are licensed-technician territory. A service before summer is a good habit on any system over a couple of years old — it keeps the manufacturer warranty clean and catches the small stuff (a dirty coil, a failing capacitor, a loose terminal) before it turns into a January breakdown call.
Queensland summers are long — systems here work harder and more months of the year than almost anywhere in the country. A service between September and November means no queue in the February rush.
If your system needs a look before summer, Chillin books services through the week across Logan, Brisbane South, North Lakes, Toowoomba, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg — book online and the team will call to lock in a time.
