Aircon Installer Licences Explained — Choosing a Queensland Installer
What the licence numbers on an installer card actually mean: ARCtick for refrigerant, the electrical contractor licence, and QBCC. Why dual licensing saves you a second tradie.

Most people compare brands and forget to compare the person doing the installation. But in Queensland, the licence an installer holds decides what they are legally allowed to do — and whether your warranty holds up if something goes wrong later.
The licences that matter
- ●ARCtick (Australian Refrigeration Council) — anyone handling refrigerant must hold one. No ARCtick means an illegal instal of anything containing refrigerant gas, full stop.
- ●Electrical contractor licence — split systems need a dedicated circuit and isolator. Only a licensed electrical contractor can legally do that wiring.
- ●QBCC licence — the Queensland Building and Construction Commission licence covers the contracting side and its warranty obligations.
Ask your installer to put the licence numbers on the quote. Every legitimate operator will do it without hesitation — Chillin prints QBCC 15025062, ARCtick AU069321 and electrical licence 88860 on its paperwork and its website.
Why dual licensing matters for your house
A split system install is two trades in one visit: refrigeration for the unit and pipe work, electrical for the circuit and isolator. Companies that only hold the refrigerant side have to bring in (or subcontract) an electrician — which is where scheduling slips and costs move. A dual-licensed team does the whole job in one visit, with one person accountable from bracket to commissioning.
One visit, one accountable team, one warranty — that is the whole pitch for checking licence numbers up front.
It is also worth checking who carries the workmanship warranty. Chillin backs every installation with a 12-month workmanship guarantee on top of the Hisense 7-year manufacturer warranty. If something in the install fails inside 12 months, the team comes back and makes it right at no charge.
